Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program

IMMIGRATION

AINP

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot was introduced in 2017, aiming to bring more than 7000 families to the Atlantic region of Canada. It allows local employers and communities to fill their requirements by hiring foreign workers.

It is a fast-track immigration program that assists foreign nationals to immigrate and settle in Canada’s four Atlantic provinces — Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island.

How it works

Introduction to the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP)
The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) is designed to help employers in Canada's Atlantic provinces address labor shortages by hiring foreign workers. This employer-driven program allows designated employers to recruit workers without going through the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process. To qualify, applicants must receive a job offer from a designated employer and develop a personalized settlement plan for themselves and their families. The program is available across four Atlantic provinces, each of which maintains a list of designated employers eligible to participate in the AIPP.
Employer Participation and Job Vacancies
Employers in Atlantic Canada can use the AIPP to quickly fill job vacancies by hiring foreign workers. To do so, they must apply to the province where they need employees and work within the program’s guidelines. Since the LMIA requirement is waived, designated employers can streamline the hiring process and bring in skilled workers more efficiently. This approach allows employers to access a broader talent pool while ensuring that foreign workers have the necessary support to settle in the region.
Pathway to Temporary Work and Permanent Residency
The AIPP offers a temporary work permit option for candidates who need to relocate to Canada quickly. This allows both the worker and their family to move to Canada while the permanent residence application is in progress. To obtain the temporary permit, candidates must secure a valid job offer from a designated employer, receive an endorsement letter from the province, and commit to submitting their permanent residence application within 90 days of obtaining the work permit. This structure ensures a smoother transition for workers and provides Atlantic Canadian employers with a reliable workforce to meet their labor demands.
